Compost

Composting is simple. Everybody can have a compost area. First, find an area in your yard that is close to your garden, The area doesn't have to be very big, it depends on your garden needs .
If your house or apartment doesn't have enough space for you to build your own compost area, Then you may want to consider buying one. There are many composters on the market to choose from. There are small ones, round ones, plastic ones, many types to fit your needs...
BACK TO MAKING COMPOST... The simplest way is to start a pile, same as if you bought a composter, start adding twigs, grass clipping, hay or any material that was once alive. Then adding fruit and veggie scraps, coffee grounds, egg shells, leaves, weeds that haven't started to seed. this process continues. Once you have added some organic matter you will need to
wet the material to keep it damp, If you are using a pile or box of some type, You will need to keep the compost covered, You can use plastic, carpet, anything that will keep it damp.In no time the materials will start to create heat. Use a pitch fork or shovel to turn the compost every couple of weeks too help break everything down. In only a couple of months, you will have really good compost.

Horse Manure... Horse manure is an excellent additive to soil to enrich your garden beds. Mix it in, or if it's not very composted, leave it on top. You can also add layers of manure in your yard waste or food compost piles to help with the decomposition of food and plant matter. The best thing about horse manure is that it's all-natural and most horse farms will give it to you for free. You can line the back of any car or truck with a tarp and just shovel it straight in. Even in urban areas, a horse farm is usually not very far away. It can be a nice weekend outing to take a short drive out of the city and if you have kids, they'll enjoy petting the horses!
